Class Descriptions

Hatha Yoga focuses on your overall health. Body tension is relieved through the practice of yoga postures (asanas) and proper breathing. Awareness is brought to postural alignment, while increasing strength, flexibility, stamina and balance. The focus on proper breathing and controlled posture improves blood circulation, oxygen intake and the functioning of the body’s organs. All of these aspects of a yoga practice combine to prevent and reduce injury, stress, pain, suffering and dis-ease in the body and mind.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, taught in the tradition of Pattabhi Jois, is a challenging and flowing form of Yoga. It is known for its vigor and its method of linking postures through continuous flow (vinyasa) and breath awareness. Intense heat is created in the body, providing freedom to all the joints and connective tissues, allowing tight muscles to safely release.

Guidelines to help ensure a pleasant experience:

  • It is recommended that you not eat a large meal 2-3 hours before class.

  • Please refrain from wearing perfume and heavy jewelry.
  • If you have any medical conditions or are pregnant, or if you are recovering from an illness, please consult your physician before attending and advise your teacher as well.
